Thoughts on the Writer's Strike

The thing that gets me about this whole writer's strike is the complaint from the producers that there is no money. We all know a good deal of money is being made on DVDs. If things are as dire as they say how is it possible that movies costing $300-$400 million dollars get made? Spiderman 3 and the latest Pirates of the Carribean were those types of movies. Both movies got panned by critics and audiences; yet, still made a ton of money. Goes to show you it's not the millions of dollars put into a movie that makes it great-it's the writers!

Implications of interracial couples on TV

I noticed an interesting trend the other day on two of the shows I watch on the CW 90210 and Privileged. Both shows feature an interracial couple, one is straight the other is gay. One of the partners is African-American while the other is white. What disturbed me until last Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2009) was that neither couple was ever shown kissing on the lips. The camera would capture the kiss from a angle where you would see the back of someone's head. I found this annoying, because I've never seen this done. You always see at least the lips touching especially with straight couples. This had several implications for me. Was the censorship of these couples part of because we had a Republican administration in office at that time? Or could it be part of an even more disturbing implication that interracial relationship are on par with gay relationships. Oh boy, them Dodgers!

I know how all you Dodgers fans must feel. We're all disappointed they didn't make it to the playoffs. The only consolation is that there's always next season. I have to give some props to a few of the players. First, gotta hand it to Russell Martin. Love watching him play. He does a little bit of everything. He can do home runs, steal, get people out, and make amazing plays like almost falling into the dugout head first to catch a ball. He deserves all the awards he's gotten. I look forward to seeing him next year. Although he's at the top of my list for players I want to meet in person. Doesn't hurt that he dazzles these eyes! Second, Juan Pierre is a must keep. There's been a lot of talk about the younger players this season, but I don't think people should count out the vets. Juan Pierre is another player that I feel is exciting to watch.
